•   Is Halifax Academy accredited? 

Yes, Halifax Academy is fully accredited.  Please see the accreditation page for more information.

• Do students who graduate from Halifax Academy go onto college? 

Yes! Students who have graduated from Halifax Academy have been accepted into many four year public and private colleges and universities, both in state and out of state.

• Does Halifax Academy offer an advanced program? 

Yes. Halifax Academy's curriculum is designed to provide a personalized educational experience. During your initial meeting with the Principal, you discuss the academic goals of your child. A challenging curriculum is then created with the intent of meeting and exceeding your goal.

• How will Halifax Academy prepare my child for college? 

Halifax Academy’s unique approach to learning gives your child an advantage for college by preparing them to work on their own through teaching them how to learn rather than just teaching facts.  Dual enrollment programs also allow students at Halifax Academy to take college courses while still in high school allowing Halifax Academy teachers and staff the opportunity to help acquaint our students to college level course work while still under our direction.

• Does Halifax Academy work with learning disabled students? 

Yes. Halifax Academy can meet the needs of students with ADHD, ADD, dyslexia, autism and other specific learning disabilities. Our mission is to meet the needs of students who require a smaller learning environment or find that they are not successful in a “one size fits all” school setting.  In addition to the use of study carrels and individualized learning, we work to limit distractions and provide necessary accommodations to all of our students with needs.

• How do you work with students to work ahead or catch up on work? 

How does Halifax Academy work with students to work ahead or catch up on work? Halifax Academy’s individualized approach to learning allows students to work at their own level.  This kind of curriculum allows the teachers to structure each student’s individual program of study to his or her own needs.  If the student wishes, the teacher can work with the student to allow them to graduate high school in less than 4 years.  However, if the student is behind academically, the individualized program allows for the student to work towards their grade level, achieving what is attainable over the course of time.

• Do I have to pay for my child to attend Halifax Academy? 

Halifax Academy is a private school that relies on its tuition to provide funds to operate.  Yes, every student at Halifax Academy is charged tuition.  The tuition is the same for everyone, but is based on a sliding fee scale and there is financial aid available to those who qualify.  For more information please contact us at (386) 252-9557 or email halifaxacad@aol.com

• Does Halifax Academy accept any kind of scholarships?

• ​Do you accept students with discipline problems? 

Halifax Academy is for students who want a small, safe learning environment in which they can get ahead and be successful in their learning. We are not designed to work with students who have significant behavioral problems.  Halifax Academy has specific and deliberate classroom expectations that ensure order, consistency, and motivation throughout the day.

• Will my child be happy at Halifax Academy? 

Our school provides a “home away from home” where students can feel safe and gain confidence. Since Halifax Academy is small, it allows the principal, teachers, and staff to get to know each student and family in the school. Our individualized programs are designed to provide each student with the type of instruction needed to be successful. Halifax Academy classrooms are designed to allow for quality interactions among students and to provide opportunities to grow and prosper, both socially and academically.

Our classroom management is set up to provide order, consistency, and motivation throughout the day, which is why our class size never exceeds 20:1. Our teachers enjoy teaching and helping their students grow and mature into self-reliant adults. We find (and our parents report) that Halifax Academy is an environment in which students are happy and once again look forward to going to school.

• How do you encourage and provide social interaction in a small school setting?

Parents sometimes worry about their child's opportunity for socialization in the smaller private school.  A recent survey of adolescents indicated that as many as 60 percent of the students felt unsafe in their large high school. This is certainly not the basis for security, trust and relationship building. And, what about the “real world”? The large middle school and high school do not represent the real world in which we adults would be willing to work. We certainly cannot expect less for our children. Most of our children will work in small businesses, professional offices and smaller units of larger companies, where socialization skills will be extremely important for advancement and reducing stress. The research to date does not indicate that large schools prepare children to socialize in the "real world" of the future. Halifax Academy does provide opportunities for its students to socialize outside the classroom through a number of different events.  These include, but are not limited to, lunch and break times during school, different school clubs, dance(s), dinner(s), and sporting events, both playing on teams or cheering for them.
